The Mission

by stuicide on Dec.31, 2008, under Media, Personal

Check out this great stop motion film from my cousin Nicole. She’s been working hard on it for several months now and I think that it’s turned out great. Great writing, directing, and most importantly the best lego action/fight scene I’ve ever witnessed.

When I was 14, I was addicted to playing Goldeneye on my Nintendo 64, I did nothing productive in the entire year, she goes and does this.

Some inspirations

by stuicide on Dec.19, 2008, under Homework, Media, Personal, Photography

After taking pictures for a while, it’s easy to get disuaded and feel that my pictures aren’t good enough. The best way for me to find some inspiration and realize that I just need to learn more, and put in more time is to browse some of my favorite photographer’s sites. They range from top of the line photographers, to people that just do it for fun on the weekends.

Vincent Laforet – Got addicted to him when I saw the pictures he took for Newsweek during the 2008 Olympics. Some really great moments in there.

Chase Jarvis – First heard about him through the Nikon D90 announcement video (almost made me switch to Nikon!) and then spent a long time watching all of his videos, great stuff and a full archive of videos.

Strobist – Just now starting to get into it, I have to get more off camera lighting before I can really start to experiment with this stuff.

GreyscaleGorilla – I don’t even know how I stumbled onto this site, but he works out of Chicago which is one of the cities I love most. I even caught a picture of my old apartment building when looking through his archives.

Zack Arias – Just found this guy last week, his studio work is amazing, what he does with lighting/white backdrop is amazing and really inspirational. Especially since a lot of that can be reproduced although, not as great as what he’s done.

Luke Wilkins – A student from Knoxville. Just across the state. Some great pictures and a lot of good compositions. Made me realize I need to step up my composition skills.

Tim Crowson – A personal friend of mine, takes some amazing pictures, I love his series from Japan, must be a great place that I want to visit one day.

What was the best picture you took in 2008?

by stuicide on Dec.16, 2008, under Personal, Photography

2008 was a great year for my photography.

I really started to grow this year, and while I have a long way to go still, I learned a lot this year. I think that my pictures have improved and the amount of pictures that I take are great have slowly started to increase.

My favorite picture of the entire year?

Taken at the Bartlett Balloon Festival right as the sun had set. it was a lowlight situation, I had no tripod, and very little light. I had my brand new Canon 15mm f/2.8 fisheye which I set to 2.8 to let in as much light as I could, pumped my ISO to 1600 and manged to get a great shot.

You can see it in High Resolution at Flickr here!

So what was your best picture taken in 2008?
