After taking pictures for a while, it’s easy to get disuaded and feel that my pictures aren’t good enough. The best way for me to find some inspiration and realize that I just need to learn more, and put in more time is to browse some of my favorite photographer’s sites. They range from top of the line photographers, to people that just do it for fun on the weekends.

Vincent Laforet – Got addicted to him when I saw the pictures he took for Newsweek during the 2008 Olympics. Some really great moments in there.

Chase Jarvis – First heard about him through the Nikon D90 announcement video (almost made me switch to Nikon!) and then spent a long time watching all of his videos, great stuff and a full archive of videos.

Strobist – Just now starting to get into it, I have to get more off camera lighting before I can really start to experiment with this stuff.

GreyscaleGorilla – I don’t even know how I stumbled onto this site, but he works out of Chicago which is one of the cities I love most. I even caught a picture of my old apartment building when looking through his archives.

Zack Arias – Just found this guy last week, his studio work is amazing, what he does with lighting/white backdrop is amazing and really inspirational. Especially since a lot of that can be reproduced although, not as great as what he’s done.

Luke Wilkins – A student from Knoxville. Just across the state. Some great pictures and a lot of good compositions. Made me realize I need to step up my composition skills.

Tim Crowson – A personal friend of mine, takes some amazing pictures, I love his series from Japan, must be a great place that I want to visit one day.

I believe he lived, and is kept in some super secret area of Arkham Asylum because that’s what the Batman world is all about. Not killing. Sure there are deaths… but a bad guy like Two-face would never normally die in a Batman world.

What do you think? It was a long and nasty fall…

I just wanted to write some thoughts down since it’s 2:30 on a Saturday night and I’m just in one of those moods.

What makes a good movie? Sure there are usually big action sequences or flashy special effects or even wild off the wall comedy sequences, all of those are important in certain films, but when you boil it down, none of it matters if the content doesn’t reach the fanbase.

A story or conflict that sets the “Why” for the film. You need a reason to watch people interact, sometimes it’s what defines the movie, sometimes it’s very slight, but gives some structure to the movie.

A Protagonist – the character that drives the action forward. No one wants to watch the main character sit back and not make things happen. Some of my favorite movies include a protagonist who is conflicted.

Dialogue – I just saw a few short films that really bored me because the dialogue didn’t work. They tried to be overly smart or use a bunch of fancy terms that really just made the characters seem arrogant and boring, I didn’t care for them.

Those are just a few things that popped into my mind at first thought. There are dozens of elements that have to be just right to make a film worth watching, but I think if you focus on having interesting characters that interact well with each other and have a conflict that leads the film you should have the building blocks of a good movie.

Yesterday, I received a message from a friend of mine at Bungie, wondering if I would be able to make it out to Seattle in two days to attend the Legendary Map Pack Press Day. My site, TiedtheLeader, was invited to attend as a Community Press.

Being a huge fan of the Halo series for the last few years, I was ecstatic knowing that I had an opportunity to go to Bungie headquarters and see it with my very own eyes.
Alas, It was not to be, since flying out to Seattle on a day’s notice was going to be entirely too expensive to make it work. Not this time, which sucks.

I hope some other opportunities like this come my way soon. I will be ready.

So I received my Flip Video Ultra camera yesterday. Haven’t had a chance to shoot any video, but it’s really cool and I’ll try to get some footage tomorrow. It’s a low end camera that’s small and is real quick from set up to shoot (2 seconds). Should be perfect to keep around for all of those improv moments.

I’ll be taking it with me to all of the TTL LAN’s and it may be a good camera to take out to the bars, who knows.

I’m experimenting right now with Live Video streaming from my computer to the web. The sites I’ve checked out are Mogulus , Justin.tv, and Ustream.tv I have a few cool ideas I’d like to implement if I’m able to get them working without murdering my bandwidth (I use that for gaming).

I’m fascinated with bleeding edge technology and Social Media and Social interaction. I think that there’s a lot of new ideas out there that have yet to be implemented in ways that I would like to.
