I thought I’d post this up on here in case any non-TTL members wanted to participate. Week 2’s homework assignment is rather simple. Take a picture in Black & White.

For those that aren’t used to post processing your images, you can do it easily using several online services. Google’s Picasa gives you Black & White control and is free to download. Flickr has a free image editor as well and I’m pretty sure you can transform pictures there. Also, if you are using iPhoto that can do it too. It’s one of the most basic tools of any photo processing application.

All entries are due in Sunday night, and I’ll post a blog post Monday morning of the results. Be Creative this week everyone, and try to stretch yourself creatively. Use last week’s line homework as something to keep in mind when composing your shot.

I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.

If you want to participate, leave a link to your photo in the comments, or e-mail me at mcardwll at gmail dot com. Just mention it’s something photography related and I won’t miss it. I’ll link everyone’s photos back to their Flickr stream/Website/Whatever. If someone digs your pictures, they’ll need a place to go track down more of it.

After taking pictures for a while, it’s easy to get disuaded and feel that my pictures aren’t good enough. The best way for me to find some inspiration and realize that I just need to learn more, and put in more time is to browse some of my favorite photographer’s sites. They range from top of the line photographers, to people that just do it for fun on the weekends.

Vincent Laforet – Got addicted to him when I saw the pictures he took for Newsweek during the 2008 Olympics. Some really great moments in there.

Chase Jarvis – First heard about him through the Nikon D90 announcement video (almost made me switch to Nikon!) and then spent a long time watching all of his videos, great stuff and a full archive of videos.

Strobist – Just now starting to get into it, I have to get more off camera lighting before I can really start to experiment with this stuff.

GreyscaleGorilla – I don’t even know how I stumbled onto this site, but he works out of Chicago which is one of the cities I love most. I even caught a picture of my old apartment building when looking through his archives.

Zack Arias – Just found this guy last week, his studio work is amazing, what he does with lighting/white backdrop is amazing and really inspirational. Especially since a lot of that can be reproduced although, not as great as what he’s done.

Luke Wilkins – A student from Knoxville. Just across the state. Some great pictures and a lot of good compositions. Made me realize I need to step up my composition skills.

Tim Crowson – A personal friend of mine, takes some amazing pictures, I love his series from Japan, must be a great place that I want to visit one day.

This week’s homework assignment is here!

After having a lot of fun with the last one, I did a lot of brainstorming for something that would be fun and anyone could participate in. Some really great ideas were mentioned by some friends, but they were a bit more advanced so, some Point and Shoot photographers may not have been able to join in easily. We’ll get to those ideas in due time, but for this week. I wanted something Stu-ish, something snazzy, something that would spark creativity, while also allowing freedom.

This week’s assignment is titled “Morning Rituals”. Take a picture of something that represents the morning rituals that people do. Anything that makes you think early in the day. Be creative with your ideas, there are a lot of things people do in the morning before they go to work, or things people don’t do because it’s the weekend and they may or may not be hungover.

This should allow everyone with some freedom to be creative and it will get us all completely different results.

Homework is due in 1 week. June 25th. To submit your images please e-mail the Photo URL (medium size if you’re using Flickr, roughly 500 pixels) for your photo. If you have a Flickr account, send me the link so I can make sure people find a way to your photography if they like your picture. My e-mail is Mcardwll (at) gmail (dot) com.

I want to try something a little new. I am going to pick a topic every now and will publish my results. This should help me try to photograph a certain object or style every week that I may not think of when just walking around taking photos.

This week’s assignment is to get an object from the house and take at least 50 pictures of that item. It can be something mundane like a utensil or something cool like a toy that you have around the house for whatever reason.

If anyone else out there has a camera and wants to take some pictures, please let me know and I will publish your homework assignment as well. This will make a great community event, if I had a community that ever reads this.

Pictures are due Sunday night at 10:00 central time. I will publish the results Monday morning.

50 Pictures

An object you have in the house

Will post 5 pictures from each person

Due Sunday Night
