Feeling Inspired
by stuicide on Mar.19, 2009, under Uncategorized
So I finished up my last midterm last night and finally my brain was able to wander and think creatively. I like school and all but you get so busy working on projects and studying for tests and trying to cover a lot of material, you lose the time you need to be creative. I hate that, because school is supposed to inspire and raise your drive to do incredible things. I’ve found that school more often than not is about memorizing a lot of stuff to recite it in a test. It’s a lot of verbal garbage and maybe I should have known that’s what I was getting into when I signed up for Grad School after 4 years of Business school.
Anyways, I saw a few photo contests which I feel completely outclassed in, but I’m going to enter anyways because I want to try and push myself to create an amazing image. One of my goals for the next few months is to take a picture that I love so much I want to print it on a wall print and hang it. Hopefully this will allow me to do so.
Also, I’ve been stumbling a lot around on the web and I like to focus on finding inspiring stuff on the web. I found a lot of cool stuff at the Ted website.
- Adam Savage from Mythbuster’s had a great speech about the journey.
- J.J. Abrams talks about his mystery box.
- Johnny Lee and Wii Remote hacks.
- Author Malcolm Gladwell and spaghetti sauce.
- Dave Eggar’s Once Upon a School.
There are so many more but those are just some of the ones I’ve seen. If you guys like ‘em I’ll post up a couple more as I stumble across some other great ones.
Many more sites and places with great messages and ideas. I’ll write more about it next time but one tag line I hear a lot from this site is “Make cool shit” which says so much…. check out GreyScaleGorilla and check out the Daily Photos, some really amazing stuff in there.

Just saw a cool video about this from Nick at GreyScaleGorilla (great photographer out of Chicago). It’s a cool lil site he built. Doesn’t mean anything, but it’s cool to see the power of social networking and how together we can achieve such great numbers.
Photography Homework – Lines
by stuicide on Mar.02, 2009, under Homework, Uncategorized
Last week I turned to my buddies at TiedtheLeader for a photography homework assignment. The only thing they had to do was capture “Lines” in their photograph. It was a fairly abstract assignment, but there were a lot of amateur photog’s that were learning a lot right now, so I thought it would be good for them.
There are a lot of great results and it was great to see so many varied shots and how people interpreted the homework assignment. Comment and lemme know which ones are your favorite!
Here are the results…

Where is Stu’s 5D? Thursday Update
by stuicide on Jan.22, 2009, under Uncategorized
Ack! So they tried delivering the camera yesterday while I was still at work. No one else was home so I got a nifty sticker on my front door.
After I called UPS to see if I could pick up the package at the ship center (where I have picked up many packages over the last few years) they said that due to the shipper I was not allowed to do that.
It’s a very secure package but I find that it’s a bit much that I cannot talk to UPS myself and use one of their other options that works for millions of packages.
They are supposed to re-deliver it today, sometime this afternoon and my sister is home to intercept the package.
Hopefully she hears the door (she was warned about the importance of this package) and I should have my camera very soon.
Immediate updates via my Twitter account (Stuicide) if anyone wants up to follow it that closely.

The Drive Home

Through 4 years of Undergraduate Studies and now that i’m going back for my MBA, I have had to commute to and from the University of Memphis. Last night I wanted to capture the 20 or so miles that I have to drive each way to get my learn on.
I think it turned out really cool, especially for the first full run I have done with these settings.
Enjoy!
